About Paris & Aubervilliers

Attending a conference in Paris offers a unique opportunity to explore one of the world’s most prominent tourist destinations with cultural visits, sightseeing activities, and exhibitions.

Aubervilliers and its surrounding areas are major immigration districts in the Paris region, known for their remarkable cultural diversity. Exploring the urban landscapes of Seine Saint Denis provides a unique opportunity to discover the history and contemporary sociology and economics of migration. Our campus is based in a thriving urban area, with real estate dynamics further accelerated by the hosting of the 2024 Olympic Games, a joint effort between Paris and Aubervilliers.

During your stay in Paris-Aubervilliers for the 2025 IMISCOE conference, you have the opportunity to discover a wide variety of places and events representing different sides of our city and region:

  • The historic center of Paris with some of the co-founding partners of IC Migrations like Collège de France and Paris Sorbonne University in the Latin Quarter

  • The landmarks along the metro line 12 that takes you from Aubervilliers to the South of Paris, passing on its way: the Place de la Concorde, bordered on one end by the Tuileries Gardens leading up to the Louvre, and the Champs-Elysées leading up to the Arc de Triomphe on the other; the Parliament building (Assemblée Nationale), the beautiful banks of the river Seine the Musée d’Orsay if you feel like discovering some impressionist art.

  • Closer to the Campus Condorcet, you can discover the territory firsthand with the help of local guides called Les Hôtes Urbains (urban hosts) – it’s an association offering district tours guided by their inhabitants, focusing on the cultural and historic heritage. Free tour slots will be available for IMISCOE participants.

  • From July 4th, Multitude, the Intercultural Biennale of Seine-Saint-Denis, will open to the public. The biennale aims to celebrate the multiculturality of the region, both through the mosaic of individuals that make it up, as well as through the meeting between artistic and cultural disciplines. With this Biennale, you can dive into the cosmopolitan, multicultural and urban identity of Seine-Saint-Denis through artistic performances, food stands and various other activities.
