Opening plenary: Decentering Migration Theories

1 July 2025 18:15 to 19:45 CEST
Chair: Helene Thiollet

This session will officially launch the conference’s rich conversations under the broader theme of "Decentering Migration Studies." The theme of our opening plenary is grounded in several initial questions while remaining entirely open to additional ones that may emerge as our conversations progress. Where do most migration theories come from? Are migration theories "Western"? Can migration serve as a foundation for broader decentered theorizing in the social sciences?
