Call for papers BROAD-ER International Conference- Urban Spaces, Migrant Lives: Bridging Disciplinary Boundaries

They invite papers from scholars and researchers from the fields of migration and urban studies to participate in their upcoming International Conference, organized within the framework of BROAD-ER (Bridging the Migration and Urban Studies Nexus). BROAD-ER is an EU-funded twinning project coordinated by Koç University (Türkiye), Pompeu Fabra University (Spain), and the University of Amsterdam (the Netherlands).

The BROAD-ER International Conference “Urban Spaces, Migrant Lives: Bridging Disciplinary Boundaries” aims to advance discussions on connecting migration and urban phenomena across multiple dimensions of research and policy. Bringing together scholars, policymakers, and practitioners, the conferenceexplores the dynamic intersections between migration and urban studies, addressing pressing challenges and future pathways in research and practice. The conferencewill address cities’ roles as key actors in migration governance, urban responses to varying topics of migration, and innovative approaches to bridging these fields.

We welcome submissions in the following areas:

  • Cities’ International Role in Migration Governance
  • Local Governments and National Dynamics in Urban Migration Governance
  • Grassroots and Emerging Urban Actors in Migration Governance
  • Cities and Forced Migration
  • Intersectional Perspectives on Cities and Migration
  • Population, Technology, and Climate: Shaping Urban Futures
  • New Themes, Comparative Perspectives, and Innovative Methodologies Bridging Migration and Urban Studies

Publication Opportunity

Selected participants whose abstracts are accepted will have the opportunity to submit full papers for consideration in a special issue or an edited book within the framework of the BROAD-ER project. Participants invited to submit full papers must provide their first drafts by 01 September 2025.
