CIES-Iscte and Philipps-Universität Marburg (Germany) are pleased to announce the Fall School “Facts First: Untangling the Nexus of Human (Im)Mobility and Climate in Europe,”. This intensive program will take place from October 21st-23rd at ISCTE, Lisbon, Portugal and aims to critically examine the discourses, perceptions, and narratives surrounding climate change and human mobility in Europe. We are willing to sponsor 14 participants in person and 30 people online. The fall school is funded by the DAAD and supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.
Objective of the Fall School
The Fall School will delve into how climate change and migration are discussed, perceived, and represented in various discourses, and how some of these narratives may be misleading or inaccurate. Participants will explore the impact of these narratives on policy, public opinion, and the lived experiences of migrants. Through lectures, case studies, and group discussions, students will engage with leading experts to dissect and challenge common misconceptions, while developing a more nuanced understanding of the interplay between climate change and migration.
Format and Logistics
This is a hybrid program running daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Lunch will be provided. The Fall School will be conducted in English and will include a short fieldwork activity to provide participants with practical insights and hands-on experience related to the course themes.
